How It All Began
Heather's Story
only the beginning
that is the freedom I want for you too.
My path takes me all the way back to high school where I was yearbook editor and an English teacher looked at me and said “You are a gifted storyteller.” And boy did I take that and run with it!
How it started
schooling
Fast-forward a few plus years and I found myself leading the publicity department at the world’s largest Christian publishing house. I was living my dream—until I wasn’t.
fast-forward...
In 2010, I was laid off. 3 days later, I got a call from a competing publishing house offering me a position. I loved the work I continued to do, but I missed leading, and I really missed leading women.
soul searching
I founded Choice in 2014. We've celebrated 10 years in business and expanded to much more than just book publicity. I get to do what I love because of the challenges I've overcome. I get to continue to empower and serve women.
I graduated with a degree in magazine journalism from UGA, had an internship in the press office for the secretary of state, got my first job as a public information officer in Cobb County, and things were moving.
Channeling my strengths in PR strategy, media management and storytelling...
I have secured client features in PEOPLE, the TODAY show, and more—worked with clients like Jen Hatmaker and Julie Chen Moonves—and successfully grown my personal brand as a business owner, mentor and speaker.
I’m a pop culture junkie, love to travel, and am always on the hunt for new additions to my wardrobe and beauty routine. Time with my girlfriends feeds my soul and like a true southerner, hosting others around my table brings me warmth.
What Fuels Me
Besides being a passionate champion for women and a dedicated wife to my husband Matt and mama to my two boys…
Everybody in this process has been so phenomenal and I am so grateful. We are just getting started and I am so excited for it. Choice—love ya!

Worked for Cobb County in the communications department
I worked as a substitute teacher at my old high school as I figured out my next steps.
After 9/11 happened, the non-profit I worked for lost funding and I was without a job.

A world leading publisher, combining my love for books with my background in PR. This is where I cut my teeth working with nation media, securing client media in the New York Times, PEOPLE Magazine and more.
When I moved to Nashville, I took a job that changed the trajectory of my career. I became a publicist at Thomas Nelson...
It wasn’t easy to accept, but I left proud of myself.
After working my way up to department head for the better half of a decade, I was laid off in 2010 as a result of the recession.
This is when I realized the power of relationships.
I got laid off on a Friday—that Sunday, I got a call from a competing publisher offering me a job to overhaul their publicity department.
I did not want to move to Michigan, and I did not want to work full-time. And they said yes.
I followed my husband's advice: “don’t take your next steps out of fear.” Giving me the freedom to chase the life I dreamed for myself.
I took the job, but I did it on my own terms. For the first time in my professional career I advocated for myself.
And I really missed leading women.
For the next 4 years, I worked hard, but I missed leading.
I get to dream about what the next decade looks like for my business and think hard about how I can continue to uplift women. I couldn’t be more grateful.
So in 2014, I launched Choice. Now celebrating 10 years in business, I get to do the work I love.
