HOW TO AUDIT YOUR INSTAGRAM FOR THE NEW YEAR
It’s a new year, which means it’s time to audit your Instagram account! As always, the social media space is changing, which means that you should make updating your profile a priority. The goal of auditing your Instagram account is to make it the best it can be. So, whether your goal is to gain followers, promote your brand, or sell a service, these tips are for you!
Update Your Profile Bio
When was the last time you updated your bio? Your Instagram bio is the first thing that people see when they land on your page. You want to make sure that your bio tells the viewer exactly who you are, what you do, and what value you provide. Keep your bio clean and easy-to-read. If you have any important links or a business address, make sure you include those things here. As for your profile image, make sure it’s updated and still representative of you or your brand. Have you gone through a rebrand? Update your profile image. Have you cut and dyed your hair? Update your profile image.
Look at top performing posts
Have you had a few posts go viral or do really well for you? Look at what made them successful! It’s important to look at past content you’ve created and gauge what made them perform well or poorly. Was it a unique graphic you created? Was it a reel? Was it a collaboration with another creator? Was it a certain topic? What time did you post it at? These are all questions to be asking yourself when you’re reviewing your past content. Figure out what worked, what didn’t, then make the necessary adjustments.
Review Hashtags
What does your hashtag strategy look like right now? Take a look back at some of your posts and review what hashtags you chose. Are you using the same hashtags over and over? It may be time to find some new ones. Are you only using 1 or 2 hashtags? Start using all 30! Take some time to research hashtags that are related to your account’s niche, location, or target audience. Another useful trick is create a hashtag list that you can pull from. This will make choosing and varying your hashtags easier.
Keep track of analytics
Analytics. This is what everyone wants to know about! Your analytics are the measurements of things like follower growth, avg. post likes, reach, impressions, and where your views came from. These are important metrics to track because it allows you to see where you’re growing and where you need to put in some more work. We recommend creating a spreadsheet every month and inputting your numbers for that time period.
Are you providing value?
Ultimately, the one thing you need to ask yourself when looking at your Instagram account is, are you providing value? What is it that you are providing your audience with? Why should they be following you? You need to look at the content you are creating and make sure that it is serving your audience well. Again, look back at your previous posts and see what value you’re providing. Notice the topics that your followers engage with the most or simply ask them what they’d like to see from you!
